What have we been freely given but given away
Riddle me this? What have we been freely given but given away? What has been given away but has since been fought for, killed for and misunderstood that has plainly been seen but always out of reach? Give up? It is the concept of freedom. Freedom as I know it has two schools of understanding. One is an earthly view and the other is a heavenly perspective. Both are valid and good to obtain however, only one is meant to last.
Freedom from an earthly concept is the unshackling of the hands and feet. It is the means to explore one’s personal potential and the latitude to make a choice. It is the theater that provides an ability to live and to bless life. However, most things that are in the hands of man tend to get metered. Men like to think they can control everything and we call that particular illusion, politics. The best definition of politics is who gets what, how much and where, and that would include the exercising of certain freedoms which is now and historically apparent. Since antiquity men have made chains for the neck, hands and feet of other men and surprisingly often by the direction of God for merciful ends. But men, while following their own hearts make them for an end in itself, to serve his own greedy and selfish desires. To take another’s goods for themselves with the pretense that it is an necessity or a belief in a Darwinian like lie such as a survival of the fittest mindset. In my opinion a survivalist simply means to have the mental and physical ability to survive, to make the best use of land and people, ie the natural resources for best use and for trade. It doesn’t necessarily mean to be physically stronger or to over power another. That is to steal and/or violently take from another. Why not limit it to mean to be able to produce.The theft of individual freedoms, in varying degrees, has been a habit for thousands of years by greedy and fearful men. And that sickness absolutely shows no signs of abating. The only animal on earth that has always had the capacity to rationalize a lie is man, which make us the most undisputed and dangerous creatures on the planet. Survival of the fittest Does not have to mean to live by the sword. We could all agree that it can be another way of saying “those who live in covenant”.
Freedom is the exercising of the will often by way of education. Making an informed decision built on proven knowledge and/or an approved ( shown to be effective) belief system. A very familiar example would be the American declaration of independence. In brief it reads “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. So, the declaration of independence declares that freedom is a self-evident truth given by God Himself. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Exodus 3:15). Meaning that a man’s right to freedom is obviously divine, and is just plain common sense. That no one can alienate any “American” citizen from these said freedoms and that these freedoms put forth in the declaration cannot be leaned upon. In other words, despite what it is said that we owe, these freedoms cannot be held hostage in lieu of a debt. Hmm…then why has the freedom mentioned been so elusive? Why all the various forms of enslavement? Enslavement is defined as subjugation, a limitation on the exercising of an individual’s will. To take away the will of a person and subjugate it to another’s will that often does not have the subjugated one’s best interest in mind. One would think it is simply the nature of man. On the contrary the answer to that question is much more of a spiritual matter (see “Why Spiritual Warfare” Article). Suffice it to say that there are those who stand to benefit from man’s disenfranchisement from God and true knowledge which will subsequently usher in our destruction. What is not mentioned in the declaration but quoted by one of the founding fathers by the name of John Quincy Adams is this “In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity”. In other words this country and it’s government was designed to function in accordance with the principals of the bible and not separate from it. The distancing and thus the limitation of American citizens away from God is that which bring incarceration of the soul and results in chain for the body.
Have you ever notice that some people resist change no matter how miserable they are in the state they’re in? Most of the time it is because they think they are free (see article “Distortions of Reality”). Those of us that are the most comfortable are the least likely to change, are the the least likely to allow change. When I was a very young man my family and I lived in a housing project in NJ. Not the worst as projects go, but certainly not a paradise. It was in the late 1960’s and throughout the 70’s and there was abundant talk of civil rights during those years. It was occasionally tumultuous at times for a young man and I did notice a sort of restriction to my freedom because of my skin color. Now it must be told that this restriction was first taught to me by my parents. It came in the form of warnings about where to go and what to say and not say and to whom. In other words it was the p’s and q’s of how much trouble I could get into for just being black. But as I think back on it, I also notice a word being thrown around in just about every theater of speech by activists and politicians. It was in all the speeches of military general to actors from the silver screen and television. It was used in every book report given in every grade at school. It was the word FREEDOM. It was like drowning in the desert because I thought about too much water. Right! So believing I had freedom I didn’t think I needed to seek it. The simple trick kept me and many others in a stand still for a long time waiting for what we thought we had, ie freedom, to happen to us. The kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force (Matt 11:12). I am no longer waiting, but some are still disillusioned waiting for someone else to hand them something. The world is not in the habit of doing anything for or with God and freedom is an act of God. The world is currently contrary to the nature of God. My point is that faith takes and love gives. The world generates no love, so our faith will have to make do. Freedom has always been up for grabs for the people of covenant. Freedom to a long prosperous life of peace and plenty. If they cared to take it. Had I known that I was from a chosen covenant people of God I would have taken it and not waited for it. Freedom is an identity. It has to be part of your name, embedded in the culture, sprinkled like the nails that holds the houses together. Freedom is more than a construct, freedom is a working Revelation and covenant right with God and intended for His chosen. The remnant of Israel will be saved, the Israel that was had been fixed on what they could achieve through the Law, they failed. But, the people of Israel that is will be fixed on what we believe about grace that accomplishes and upholds the Law. And that freedom is the accomplishment of Yahshua Christ.
Philippians 4:8 says “ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. You are probably thinking yes of course, God wants us to be good like Him, right? And the benefit of that is His favor, right again. OK let us continue on, to turn the page if it were. Love is defined, besides what the apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13 as harmony, to be in relationship. Love means to be in cooperation with heaven which is the ultimate reality. God created all things to work in harmony with each other, to cooperate and become a working system. Take planet earth as an example. The air, ground, various forms of life and the supply to sustain them works in harmony with each other or there would be no life to speak of. When there is dissension from harmony the system begins to break down and the result is sin or departure from the foundation of the law and the result is death. We are created to work in harmony with the rest of God’s creation, to be in harmony with the source which in fact is the keeping of covenant. In Genesis 1:31 it says “ And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day”. Everything was in harmony with everything else, it was a good system or one can say that everything was supplying and receiving in cooperation with everything else. There was no dis-ease. Another example could be radio signals. When we wish to tune in to a particular station we tune into the desired frequency. That is to say that we focus on the desired signal. If we do not, then we will never receive from that source. The people of covenant will be tune into the frequency of God, on the bandwidth He’s broadcasting on. We in return broadcast our signal on the same frequency in the form of obedience, praise, and thanksgiving that all piggy backs on the resonance of love and is in harmony/agreement with God. John 10:27 Yahshua says “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”. That is because the people of covenant tune themselves to, and are in cooperation with the Father. Everything else is a departure from that relationship better known as sin. Love is more than just cooperating with people, it is being in harmony with the uni-verse
which means “One Word”. So covenant is cooperation with the word of God (John 3:16). And therein can freedom be expressed to its fullness.
